Day 09 Stroll through a Woods

This evening I decided to take a drive out to Ruff Wood near Ormskirk, approximately 7 miles from my house.  Accompanying me for this random act of wildness was my eldest daughter, who always enjoys a drive out in the car and a stroll through the woods.  We'd not been here before so I was quite looking forward to seeing what it had to offer.

According to the West Lancashire Council website the woods covers 19 acres of mixed woodland and has Biological Heritage Site status due to the presence of red squirrels.  In the centre of the wood is the remains of an old quarry which once provided sandstone to build houses in Ormskirk during the 19th century.
